Hi completely new here so please bare with me is it sounds a stupid question, My old Hilux Surf failed it's MOT after 13 years of tests, it failed on some corrosion on a rear axle control arm bracket, also both sides rear sections of the Sills, ( these were not visible as the wheel arch extensions cover them, I'll put some pics on when I find out how), I have repaired the chassis bracket with my trusty ancient SIP arc welder, not pretty but it aint falling off anytime soon, that metal was about 2-3mm, the body metal however is wafer thin,
so I have been looking and reading and still really undecided what MIG welder to go for, budget is 250-300 at a push, and more or less narrowed it down to a Clark 105EN dual gas /no gas (I like the option being there), I will be getting a large gas cylinder as opposed to the small hobby ones as I understand they don't last long at all, that will probably be BOC in Portsmouth or a supplier on Fareham, I know you have to pay deposit on the bottle but in the long run I think that better than buying endless disposable bottles,
Im planning to go to Machine Mart in Copnor Rd Portsmouth for one as I don't fancy ebay, looked at loads on there and majority are Chinese (as are some of the Clarks I believe) I did think about the 90 as it had a lower 25amp setting but it's gas only and for the little extra I thought the 105 looked a better option, so any thoughts/advise very welcome,
I did use a cheap borrowed gasless mig many years ago but I couldn't get on with it, also had a quick go on and industrial one at the coach builders i worked at, just one short weld but it was fantastic, very easy to use, cheer's Ian.
