I’m sure we shall all sleep sound knowing knife crime has now been solved, and the politicians can instead concentrate on the big stuff - like fixing the economy by printing more money and moving emissions to a different country to solve the climate crisis.

Hows times have changed - I was taught at school how to sharpen a pencil with a knife - how to mark out wood with a knife. How to sharpen a knife.

We had weekly metal work lessons - we spent hours making chisels - sharpening drills/knives/chisels - to razor sharp perfection.

I can recall going to cubs and scouts with huge bowie knife in a leather sheath.

I still carry a pocket knife on workdays - little Swiss army thing - but I been carefull to buy ones that meet the UK carry law. I open boxes with it - strip cable down with it - I got a special one I "butcher" apples/fruit with....


But am I being naive here - but every kitchen has knives - every toolbox has a screwdriver. It is not knives that stab people - it is people who stab other people...

I agree with you. It's pretty crappy that we have to ban a certain version of a tool that is essential for everyday life.
I have a great Leatherman skeletool which i would carry everywhere - but it would technically get me locked up.

On the other hand, I guess (and this is just a guess) that certain police forces have seen patterns of youths buying gurt big knives with mostly the intention to look menacing in a stand-off.

Note they aren't banning "regular" machetes. Which arguably are actually more lethal than the stupid slotted/jagged ones.
