Temp display on a phone-WHERE is the reading taken from?

Assuming the user's home location is set up accurately on the phone, where abouts is the actual temp data/reading taken from?

The temp displayed on the phone does not match the temp diplayed on my car dashboard. There is a discrepancy of about 3 degrees.

I would guess that the temp shown on the dashboard is much more accurate than on the phone. The display on the dashboard is the temp of where ever the car is located, and is real time.

I think you are looking at the temp on the home screen which is always off on my android phone as well.

I came to the conclusion that it is showing the average temperature across the whole day. If you tap the temperature and look at the hourly chart it gives you a better idea of what is likely to be happening

That said our car temp gauge has always been pessimistic once readings get down below zero

I'd guess it probably gets its data from a weather app, using your location rather than any actual sensor.

It'll be read from an outside sensor somewhere on the car, usually under the front bumper [depending on marque/model]

It's in the left wing mirror on some Citroens. As we found out when someone reefed it off and the temp display stopped working.

The question relates to where the phone gets it's temp data reading, not where is the car's temp sensor located.

The weather app on my phone is only ever looked at as a guide, My area is correct and i can see the phone says sunny and warm but i am stood in rain and cold...I guess the local sensor is a few miles away.

can even remember where i heard it might been on here or the otherhalfs father said about it just seamed funny i know predecting the weather is prob hard but we have spent years ans lots of money and lots of researching and they can still get it wrong
