We've finally gotten around to moving the router to where cables aren't a trip hazard which means we can now run wired connections to our rooms without computers getting yanked across the room when someone clumsy walks in.
There's four ports on the back of the router but at least six cables need plugging in. Switches seem to vary massively in price and come managed, unmanaged and "smart", what do I need? What does an expensive one do that a cheap one can't?
Ideally, I'd have one cable run into my room and through a second switch to connect to computers and Wi-Fi speakers, would that affect anything?
Also, if a computer is going to be used mainly for streaming (For example) would it be better connected directly to the router and something that'll use less data be connected through the switch?
