SWP spares?

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and welding.

Bought myself a 2nd hand SWP Redline 150 mig turbo, only to find it comes with a 0.8/0.9 feed roller, and 0.6 is available separately. After fruitless google searches, I thought I'd ask on here.

Does anyone know where I could buy the part from please?

If you have access to a lathe, In the past I have just skimmed a few thou off the O/D of the roller, Only enough to let the 0.6mm wire drive ok, there is plenty of V left for the original wires,

Do you honestly need .6 as .8 will do thin stuff ok

I bought some 0.6 ready for practising before checking the roller, mainly because having studied this site and forum over the past 2 weeks absorbing as much information as possible (never welded before), it seemed to be the general view that 0.8 allowed more current to flow making thin sheet hard to weld. I'll be practising on 1.2mm and 0.8mm steel in the hope I can become good enough to weld some 0.8 on my car's outer sills.

No lathe but I've been told there's a machinist in a town near me. Might be a good option. Since posting I had a reply from someone eBay whose listing said they could supply SWP spares offering me a 0.6 wheel for my machine at £26, which quite frankly seems absurdly expensive...

I believe Weldequip can get his hands on a lot of spares, not just the things on the site.

The fact you can't find it on Google, may not mean much. It may be a spare that's available but there's not much demand for and no one bothers to advertise.

£26 seems a bit steep, but the usual price for for a wire roller for a budget MIG machine seems to be at least a tenner.

Are you sure it's 0.8 and 0.9 and someone hasn't stamped the 6 upside down ? A friend of mine has an old SWP 150 and it has 0.8 and 0.6 on the same roller. Put a bolt through your roll and chuck it in the drill and turn it down with a grinder disc

Thanks for the welcome. This seems a great website and forum, I've learnt a huge amount by going through both.

I did wonder if it was definitely 0.8/0.9 so tried my 0.6 wire in the narrowest groove. The top of the wire was well below the edge of the roller. I've just found this page which states it comes with 0.8/0.9 wheel and that a 0.6 has to be bought separately, they even give a price of £12.99. If it's only still 12.99 then go for that rather than mess up your 0.8 /0.9 roller ,think you will find the 0.9 is for gasless wire and so your machine should have a means of swapping from gas to gasless. Make sure you have it setup correctly for gas if that is what you are using!

If I remember correctly I only had to skim about 0.012" from the O/D and it worked perfectly well on all sizes, If you can buy a roller for around £12-00 that sounds ok.
