I have a SuperMIG 180/1 I purchased brand new from Sealey in the mid 90's from memory.
I only used it a couple of times and then stored it away. I got it out 6 months ago, stripped a layer of rusty wire off the reel and began to use it again, it worked perfectly for a couple of months.
I was welding and ran out of wire so purchased a new reel, left it a month or so then fitted the reel, it seemed to weld okay at first but the machine now seems to reduce in power after a minute or so. On 6 it will barely arc, any less power and it is very intermittant and will not arc at all, almost as if it is being rapidly swicthed on and off.
Because it was stored near the sea the outer casing of the welder is very rusty, but the insides seem fine. I have fitted a new earth cable (new 25mm car battery cable), new earth clamp, checked all obvious connections.
I am at a loss what to do next, It can't be worn out as it has only ever had one reel of wire go through it. I was going to chuck it out and buy another but am loathed to as I paid a lot of money for it new.
Does anyone have any suggestions or know what could be the problem, or is it obselete now?
Thanks
