I'm hoping we've got some Myford experts in here? My Super 7 which I've had a while but have not used much was suffering with the front bush in the headstock getting hot if I was drilling from the tailstock or putting a bit of preload on with a live centre, hot to the point where it could make my belts slip, though they were slack and did need adjusting. I guessed this was a bearing preload and adjustment issue so I've followed the setting instructions after reading the manual and a fair few discussions about how it should be done. When I looked at the split collar for the bearing preload, the horizontal mark on the shaft from the factory was miles out from its original position, after adjusting 'correctly' the collar ended up in the original factory position which makes me think it was incorrectly adjusted by the previous owner. After that, I've adjusted the front bush clearance as per the manual. So it's now much, much better and doesn't get hot but it still does get slightly warm. I've set it up with a piece of bar in the chuck and preloaded it with the tailstock then ran it for five to ten minutes or so. Once it's ran like that there is some warmth in the front bush area, nothing like it was before but still detectable. Once it's all warm there is a very slight amount of stiction if you turn the shaft by hand. Anyone any thoughts or comment?
