Hello, apologies for lengthy question , I am the manager of Russian submarine in Rochester kent and we have an issue with conning tower hatch that we believe the 4 lugs that lock it are rusted and will not move.
I have been told that the best solution would be to heat the lugs then cool them to crack the rust. One concern of doing this with gas torch inside submarine is possibility of lack of oxygen in a confined area, the hatch is up a ladder from control room which initially leads to leads to periscopes then another ladder about 5ft in length to hatch which as per the attached photos .one photo shows control room , another shows ladder looking down to control room and the final photo shows the hatch itself
The submarine itself is 92 metres in length and of course full of air and I was thinking that we could plug a fan in to keep circulating / moving air from control room up the ladder towards hatch.? We need to open hatch as there is a buildup of condensation in sub and if we can open hatch it will act as a chimney to let air circulate.
Any advice would be appreciated
