Bit of an ongoing project currently and the requirement for my new mig over the 90amp hobby mig I own.
Making a strongman yoke for me and my mate to use. Purchased some 3" diameter mild steel tubing with a 5mm wall thickness (a bit over engineered but is all about weight after all). The bases are going to be made if the I-beams in the shot and the plates show the locations they will finally sit in.
Gusseting, weight bars and also some uprights to slot inside the ones in view to add some adjustability.
Most yokes have a bolted cross bar that moves up and down the uprights but this is a lot more substantial and is being made out of what we see as the most appropriate materials. As a yoke doesn't really need to moved around between locations there's no real point in making it in small pieces, so we have gone for 3 large pieces to make it sturdier but also can still be stored relatively easily.
That extended end is what will be trimmed off and used for gusseting internally at the 90 deg join. If anyone is interested the uprights are 1300mm apart which seemed comfortable for both of us to lift.
