Hello All,
Last night I was welding more less an H shape with the bottom legs longer (1m in length) than the top out 25X2mm square.
I used little clamping cause I figured that I'll just apply some heat with the OA torch to get it to straighten.
The bottom legs warped in the same plain to the inside as expected but lo and behold I could'nt get it back again. If I heat on the outside the legs bend noticably more to the inside and when it cools down contracts to the same position as before.
If I heat on the inside the legs are pushed to the outside to its correct position but contracts back again to its original warped condition.
So I just heated the darn legs and manually bend it and cooled it off quickly with some wet rags so it's more or less in position now although about 1mm off at either side.
But it starts me thinking that I do'nt fully understand how to apply heat to unwarp tubing. I've done it before with angle and mananged to get a bow out of a 1,5 metre angle applying only heat - that must have been luck judging from my experience last night.
Any tips or trick from you old hands will be greatly appreciated.
Oh, BTW I was arc welding.
