Posher? Dolly? I know what a tub is, even a wash tub, but never heard of dolly. Did she do the laundry then?

That's right, I remember watching the old woman next door using one when I was a kid.

My gran had one, she used it with an electrically heated copper. The wet clothes were transferred to the mangle to wring the water out, then ironed, the iron being plugged into the light fitting hanging from the ceiling!

Blimey, £33? And what restoration? Apart from some brasso of course? I could probably have bagged this one for a couple of quid, it was only knowing the expression on mrs. gypsys' face when I brought it something that "might come in useful" again that stopped me!

It was called the ponch when we were kids I still have a ponch tub down the garden. My mother had a ponch, tub and dolly and a gas heated copper to boil the water in and the mangle to dry the washing after. The copper used to heat the bath water as well on Sundays

Mine needs a new wooden handle, I will make one when I get the wood lathe reassembled, I dismantled it the last time I moved house (1994), you cant rush these things.
