Steel suppliers never open weekends?

I've been looking for some steel suppliers that I can go to on a Saturday in Edinburgh but they all seem to be open 8-5 during the week only?

Is this normal? Where do other DIY'ers get their steel from if they work?

Other than Barratts (*spits*), all the stockholders we use are closed at weekend. Our regular supplier used to close at 4.30pm each day until lately when they took another lad on who takes orders up to 5.30pm. They had obviously made enough money by 4.30pm to close up for the day

The owner of my local place will open by arrangement on a saturday morning, so I can pick up an order, which is handy, and very much appreciated.

Can`t you find a local engineering place closer to hand that will supply you?
Do you buy much or is it special sizes etc?

BTW.Feel the same about Barretts.If you start buying big quantities of one size of them,they will try to find out who your customer is and go direct.Up here they don`t even use their own name.

Same worldwide probably. At least in NZ. I have resorted to placing orders by phone and having them deliver it which is pretty handy as they can deliver 5m lengths whereas if I pick it up in The ABBA wagon (see pic ), I have to get them to cut it half.

weekend stockholders

Metal Supermarket used to be open on a weekend haven't been to my local one in a while so things might of changed . Bit pricey too as I remember . Magnet.
