Cheers for that. So after all that practice, what do you reckon your next TIG welder would be?I have the Stealth ACDC tig.
Thread of me learning to tig ally with it.
AC TIG pad.
I saw an interesting old video from welding tricks and tips about doing a pad for alloy TIG. I found that doing a pad for stick welding was very helpful to me so I thought I'd have a go. The 1050 plate is 6mm thick roughly 150mm by 200m. It's a cheap and efficient way to get a lot of beads...www.mig-welding.co.uk
At the time I bought it, it was the cheapest branded ACDC tig with a pedal and warranty that I could find. There were plenty of cheaper box shifter units out there but I wanted something with warranty that put out the amps that it said it did. At the time I also looked at the Jasic but that was hundreds of pounds of more and the Parweld which was a couple of hundred quid more once a pedal was added.
The AC arc starts aren't particularly good but I managed to weld with it reasonably well for someone learning at home. I've since bought a Sherman branded Jasic as they were very cheap. There is a massive thread on them here. We can't get them anymore. In comparison, the Sherman/Jasic has a much nicer arc start. I prefer the interface on the Stealth though. The Stealth fan runs all the time and is noisy.
I didn't regret buying it at the time.
What do reckon is the best AC/DC consumer machine around or under £1500? I'm trying to check out a SIFweld, which looks pretty good on paper...They used to be absolute carp
What make is the other TIG?I have two, that's more than enough for me. They both weld better than I can. I'm not limited by my equipment, limitations are closer to home.
its the "stealth"!Can't find much in the way of reviews or experiences with SWP's Stealth MIG 250 - or their 200 PFC AC/DC TIG.
It's pretty quiet out there.
It's a sherman which is basically the 1400 quid jasic with a blue paint job. It was too cheap at the time to pass up but I didn't strictly need it. Glad I got it though. There's a massive thread about them on them here. What make is the other TIG?
No idea, I've only bought one machine under £1500 and that was an R-Tech. Okay for a beginner but once you try a European or American made machine you'll wish you spent another £500.What do reckon is the best AC/DC consumer machine around or under £1500? I'm trying to check out a SIFweld, which looks pretty good on paper...
Personally, I think you need to stick to £1000 which will buy you a Jasic/Parweld/Stealth, or you up the budget and go for Lorch/Fronius/EWM for ~£2500+What do reckon is the best AC/DC consumer machine around or under £1500? I'm trying to check out a SIFweld, which looks pretty good on paper...
Blimey yeah that slipped my mind. Europe made. The Paton 200 AC/DC would be where my money would go if I was looking for a machine in the sub £1500 bracket. I've welded with a lot of machines and this has a nice arc and decent build quality.
