Has anybody had any experience using the Static Arc MIG140 with Stainless Steel Flux Cored wire? I'm on a limited budget and thought this welder might do the job.
Thanks Popcorn. I had seen this, but it didn't talk about stainless steel flux cored wire. Maybe I missed something? The review looks very promising.
I have contacted Static Arc, they replied "Hi, haven't heard much about gasless stainless wire, it's normally just gas. But if it's out there then yes it will work the same as the mild steel flux wire, just switch the polarity with the lead on the front".
I just wondered if anyone has had any real life experience with this welder and SS fluxed wire. Or could recommend a budget gasless welder that would do the job.
Not got anything yet, but heard Blue Demon 308Lfc-O X .035 X 1# Spool Stainless Steel Flux Cored Gasless Welding Wire is supposed to be good. The only problem is it costs a fortune. Any suggestions welcome.
I've not heard of stainless flux cored wire either, I can't actually see it been possible to have enough flux in the core of a wire to shield stainless welding from the atmosphere.
Stainless arc rods have a lot more flux on them than any flux cored wire I've seen.
But I'm probably talking crap, so best wait 'til someone who really knows what there doing answers.
Edit: Just had a look on Lincoln's website and I am talking crap
The project is a large stainless steel sculpture. The issue is that due to its size I will need to use a range of welds. I have already used SS arc rods for the heavy internal frame, but there are a lot of small pieces that would be blown away with rods, but don't merit TIG welding. Also there is the issue of it being outside, so gas could present a problem, well lack of it. That's why I thought gasless.
Yeah, better spec on the Uptime. 'Uptime mig', what a strange name. Was Billy Joel on the r and d team, I wonder. The ability to swap torch would sell it for me
