Standards .. what now ?

OK happy independence day guys & gals .
So what happens to things that were CE marked ?

Are there industry plans for the superior Kite mark standards to return and simply slip the CE & TUV approved mark on things so that if it comes to it and the EU demands any exports to the EU are produced with CE approved systems & equipment we can sleep happily with both eyes closed ?

Or is it going to be far more complicated than that ?

Whatever is decided it needs to be more secure than the CE mark that is often printed on rolls and just stuck on goods together with a bogus certificate in case anyone asks about it.

Less complicated than that. CE mark is now an established standard of compliance that we have adopted in general. It works, it's necessary for export to EU countries so why change anything?

Wrong CE mark. That's China Export and it's not the same mark, just like numberplates aren't numberplates if you change the spacings.

It is not like a TUV mark which shows it has passed TUV testing, or the British kite mark or UL.
Nothing is going to change as we have CE marked goods in New Zealand and we make CE marked products here. Almost everyone uses the CE mark it almost has no value anymore, plenty of items come out of the far east with the CE mark and there is no way the product is good quality, often the mark is not even real, but the EU does nothing to help the public.
I only check for TUV, UL or kite mark as they have pass tests to get it. G

In reality everything just gets CE printed on it and there is little enforcement that happens. Look at all of the iffy products such as hover boards and phone chargers. If you wanted to enforce the correct markings then you will need a lot more customs people and inspection facilities.

Any new mark the UK brings out will just be automatically printed on along side all of the other marks.

I doubt a new UK mark will be very high on the agenda
. We have not yet left the bloc and th3refore nothing will change. In Al likelihood we will need to keep the current legislation to continue to trade with out biggest trading partners in europe.

Easiest would be to just say all CE standards stay in place until superceeded by new bs standard

the uk can still apply european standards as they want, it's a choice. The technical standards themselves will remain valid, irrespective of origin, it's only a question of wether they choose to apply them.

The machines I speak of dont even have an earth connected at the machine end.....
. But buyers see a CE mark and think they are safe.

what machines .are they class one or class 2 insulated, 2 being no earth needed

Do however keep in mind that anything with a transformer, the earthing and RCDs provide little protection for the secondary output e.g. welders, plasma cutters etc and in many cases adding an earth could make things more dangerous as you are better off with a floating output

We were on about this at work the other day... we used to work to BSxxxx, then it became BS ENxxxx, now it's BS EN ISOxxxx.
There'll be decades of work for bearded men with leather elbow patches to remove all those unwanted letters...

Not a clue what a heat press is, but many items nowadays have transformers and too many people think that an RCD will provide them protection from shock when they will not.
