Hi, I will firstly explain my situation.
I had a try as spraying my car a year ago. I bought a compressor and a spray gun (Not cheap jobbies).
I sprayed my car, and a year later (now) I want to re-do it, as I was not fully happy with my outcome the previous year.
Here was my method the first time:
- Sand the paint away and give a decent key on the panels to be sprayed.
- Spray primer on and let it dry (Repeated after 2-3 layers and coverage looked good)
- Sanded the final layer of primer to a smoothish finish (didn't apply much pressure at all)
- Applied the base coat's in the same manner but I didnt touch any layer with sandpaper.
- Applied lacquer (The worst part, which I still feel ultimately confused with).
I use 2pack, and I applied the lacquer with two thick coats and it seemed reasonable on afew panels. The others I think I did too thin and it just seemed very bumpy. kind of like a very drastic orange peel where you could see each individual tiny dot. (thousands).
Could anyone please give me tips for my next attempt?
Im looking for advise (including all other advise) on mainly the lacquer.. How should I apply it? I feel if I apply in thin coats, that it will be too bumpy as before. Can any of this be wet sanded? or polished/cut compound? if so, how and with what grades and when etc? and should I sand the 2nd to last base coat? etc..
Thank you very much for your time !
Edit: If I had runs or the lacquer messed up.. how could I restart to base coat? and how could I fix a drip / sag. Cheers.
