Hi Guys.
This may be a viral cold but…
I have just spent 3 days solid welding my classic Daimler Hearse (1971). At the end of day 1 I had a bit of a sore throat. I assumed it was the start of a cold, then on the morning of day 2 I assumed I had a cold as I woke up with what felt like a hangover. But after getting up I felt better and continued. Now after day 3 my throat feels like it is on fire and I don’t really have much of a cold!
I wear a leather apron, gauntlets, a auto darken helmet, but didn’t realise I would need to wear a respirator! I am working in a triple garage with the doors open, so I am convinced there is fair air flow…. I am however lying on the floor very close to the welding as its underneath so my head is literally 8 inches away from the torch.
I am a newby and this is my first foray in to welding*, I feel a little stupid that I have temporarily hurt my throat! (if I have? When I googled it other people are saying similar things).
I am welding Mig, with Argo shield type gas, some 18 and 21 gauge, some of it is plated (zinc I think) and some is not.
Do I need to wear some sort of mask or is this just that I have cold?
*PS, I have never welded before, I was going to post the photos of the panel I made from scratch (as DS420 Hearse lower front wings are not available) and my welding but it is so rough, I suspect I will get flamed because it’s so bad!!! ;-)
