I'm using hollow box section 35mm square with 4 mm wall. Noticed it's not a true square almost 1/2 mm out on two sides one of which has the manufactures rolled down welded seam on it .
I cut it all to over size , then ground back to the scribed lines , clamped everything to a 10 mm steel table top , set the right angle with a square and checked it with a 3,4 5 triangle . Put two little MMA ( 3 mm rods) tack welds on the joint , let it cool and made another the same .
Went back to it a couple of hour later to put the two "L's" together to make a rectangle , tacked them up
once cool turned it over and tacked all the corners , then welded it MMA opposite corners both sides .
This morning it's a crooked as an EU minister & just as twisted . a good 1/2 " lift in one corner when the other three are clamped flat on the bench .
Is this because I didn't have the manufacturers hot weld seams all in the same plane ?
What's the solution ? Cut two Vee's on the underside , half way along adjacent sides on the high corner and stand on it with a round fulcrum under the Vee's till it's back to flat , re clamp it to the bench then weld it back up ? Or Something different ?
Your thoughts will be much appreciated
Dave
NB.
I don't want to cut the corners up for I've welded castor mounting plates on each corner and on the top side have welded a bench leg retaining shoe for each of the benches four legs to sit in .
