just a 3 plate system .loop in loop out and switchwire now with using recessed lights its best to take a live and neutral feed to each wall switch and a switched live and neutral out to the lights then loop between them to each light
What's the point running the earth if it's not attached to anything, ie the light fitting?

Unless the light is metal as angelwolf saidCircuit protective conductor, i doesn't protect the light it protects the whole circuit the cables
Damn Pic didn’t load.
so how come the need for 3 x 3 core ?
Well you loop the power supply allong to the next light, and so on. Very simple way to do it, and once you get the hang of terminating them you can make a very neat job of it, and quite quickly too. What is wrong with a single 3 core wire, from the power source, with the switch in the ‘positive’ leg? Why has there got to be so many wires involved. It seems like someone got carried away with things, politicians got involved, HSE, with a myriad of potential dangers, too many ‘yeah, but what if’.
One for incoming power, the second off to another light fitting, the third for the switch
or as ive expained to a few people over the years look before you leap (i normaly get a call from a mate or family after they have removed the fitting and then dont know where they go)
what are you trying to do add a light or just change the one you got ?
Clearly there is more to your installation than you realise
