Hi
I’ve been having fun today smelting Aluminium in my home built furnace.. tbh it probably works too well.. it’s the third time I’ve. Lit it and built the heat up hot enough to melt my pure Aluminium off cuts to make a block..
However each time I’ve ended up burning through my crucible.. I had a thick steel one, holed that, a graphite crucible, same again and now a heavy cast iron one.. same result... each time it’s holed just after I’ve got the Aluminium up to a nice fluid state..
Any ideas what I can try... it’s only a small furnace approx 1ft square and 10 inch’s deep with a slide on top lid and air blown in to the base of the furnace..
