I am thinking of making a simple welding turntable. The job I would use it for is the wheel hub, on the left in the picture. The tube is about 1.625” OD. I use these on sack truck wheels, and remove the zinc plated hubs, on the right in the photo. I guess the easy way is to use one of those Chinese 12v reduction motors, and belt drive a plated hub, with the hub to be welded sat on top, using a speed controller to get the exact speed required. However, I can’t quite work out how many RPM the turntable should revolve at. I know I can slow it by the controller, but a 1 to 1 ratio for the belt drive would be a good stating point. Does anyone know what speed a circa 1.5” diameter tube, to be welded, should revolve at? I usually stick weld them. The rather poor effort in the picture was my first weld with the mig welder that I have just bought.
