Shed fridge.

Got an oldish bush fridge freezer in the unheated shed, thought it was faulty as stuff in the freezer had gone soft and refroze and refroze a couple of times.
Was going to replace it with another ive been offered for free.
My lad says the problem is that they are made to operate in ambient kitchen temperature ranges and not outside in garden sheds..
Said the cold is messing with the stat.
Confused.
Is he right?

He's right, they certainly don't like working in a cold environment, the temperature differential isn't big enough.

Not sure how your going to find out if that's your problem or not though, short of moving it somewhere warmer and seeing what happens.

yep he is correct all depends where and what type the stat is for the freezer.

Most of the fridge freezers use a thermostat in the fridge side but not in the freezer & one compressor to do both, so when the outside temperature drops to below what the fridge stat is set to & the fridge stays cold the freezer stays off as well. Not all are like this, but the greater majority are

yes that is the way to go dedicated freezer for frozen stuff outside. temps in the uk rarely drop below -18C so it will run in the winter ok

Turn the temp down in the fridge section unless it has a separate compressor for the freezer

Build a small cabinet for it and stick a greenhouse tube heater in it

It’s fridge freezers that stop working on the freezer side when the temperature drops to freezing. Stand alone freezers are ok.
