Being the owner of a 35 year old Land Rover meant inevitably I'd need to learn how to weld sometime. That time is now. Having replaced the rear leaf springs with parabolics, all the hammering and banging to remove/insert new chassis bushes resulted in a huge pile of rust on the floor. Suffice to say, some holes have appeared where there were none (around the spring hangers). The spring hangers themselves are solidly attached to the chassis (even after attacking with a lump hammer whilst repacing bushes), however, there are holes between the chassis sides directly in between the spring hanger sides underneath. I've never MIG welded before and am currently scouring eBay for a suitable cheap MIG on which to learn. Is this a job a novice could tackle or am I deluding myself and is a whole new quarter chassis required? Just to add pressure the MOT is due in two weeks! Thanks in advance.
