Securing sponge on soldering station?

What do you guys use to keep it there permanently? I've used double side tape, 3M double sided foam tape, types of glue, nothing keeps it in place for long.

Don’t normally use anything, once dampened they usually behave.

A good exercise in drawing , measuring and folding with a pair of pliers , bock of wood & soft faced hammer .

Make a small four sided tray from dishwasher inside panel stainless steel put a tiny lip on the inside edges . Fit to the station with some of the black sticky gunge used to put the black sound proofing on the outside of the actual tub warm the stations sponge recess up with a wrung out hot cloth and use the soldering iron to melt a few drops of it on the now hot dry recess then put the tray in place ...let it cool before putting the sponge in so the gunge sets completely .
I don't know if a hot melt glue gun would have the same adhesion .

In fact I might just have a go at doing one for my cheapie soldering station , as the sponge frequently dries out due to not being regularly used , then it disappears for a week or more exactly at the time when I want it . ​

You say that, but I once had a glass full of that stuff to drink as part of a two week volunteer programme at the Human Nutrition Unit at this place https://www.abdn.ac.uk/rowett/ They were trying to work out how some folk just had to look at a plate of food to gain weight, while others [like me ] could eat like horses but not gain an ounce.

Spent two weeks there, we [8 participants] could have anything we wanted to eat [or drink...within reason ] but everything had to be weighed before cooking it, and portions sizes measured too. The heavy water had to be drunk through a straw and not one drop to remain in the glass, because back then it cost £1,000 for the glassfull. Apparently the body can't process it, so it can be recovered [we'll not go into details here] and they do some clever analyses.....?

Interesting two weeks, that was.

Thought that was the preferred way @mtt.tr sponge stays there no problem it' the water dissipaters

I've never used the sponge. I have one of those things like a swarf scouring pad.
