Hi all, been lurking for years but signed up recently when I retired and changed gas suppliers. While I have a few welders, TIG, stick and gas my Mig capability rests with the subject welder which I have had since the mid 1980s. In recommissioning it I have run into a problem with the wire feed. I have changed the liner and the tip, cleaned and adjusted the feed roller and made sure I am using the right groove for the 0.6 wire. However, when welding the wire feed seems to vary speed, it doesn't stop or jam but just seems to vary in a cyclic pattern. When feeding without welding all seems OK and the motor doesn't sound as if it is slowing down.
It is such an old machine, I can't find much about it online and am wondering if this is a known issue that anyone has sorted. I remember that other machines of this ilk had feed motor problems in the past. Could anyone advise on what may be the issue and if repair/modification is worthwhile? I am only using it for up to 2mm steel but the speed of Mig is a benefit to me in the sort of hobby work I am doing now. guess I'm feeling old and time is short.
Thanks in anticipation
Best regards Keith
