science question on bleach

right ive srubbed down a patio with bleach , rinsed it well but obviously while wet im sure it might mark clothing or harm a pet that walked on it

so once its dried will the bleach be gone /dead ...or will it re wet and become active next time it rains

tried googling it but get results about bleaching hair

When used for household floor cleaning i.e. quite dilute, bleach tends not to cause any problems, even though traces of it will be left behind. In the patio cleaning case, the "risk" depends on the strength of bleach used. If sodium hypochlorite powder e.g. from a swimming pool supplier, was mixed with a bit of water and used for the scrub, then the solution formed would be highly concentrated and probably way too strong for the job. In that case a bit of effort in decontamination would help. The bleach left behind will carry on working, until it is consumed by reactions with its surroundings.

Look at it this way: are swimming pools bad for health, from the bleach/chlorine point of view?

There’s moisture in the air even on a dry day. I wouldn’t worry about it. You’ve likely diluted it anyway, it’s only the super strong stuff you want to take care with but that’s only because of the risk of inhalation straight from the bottle.

Bleach is often used in yacht water tanks to prevent fouling. It tastes of chlorine but better that than no fresh water.

I have bleached kennel floors and dishes before now many times . Household bleach though !

Whilst in no way detracting from the very relevant comments. Sodium Hypochlorite is the basis of most liquid household bleaches but Calcium Hypochlorite tends to be used in pool treatments. Both release free Chlorine ions into the water.

Sodium Per-carbonate pure oxygen bleach powder is used in the US for wood deck, wood walls, & flag stones, I understand this is the basic ingredient of Bio washing powder without the soap element, did a great job on our Cedar summerhouse that was green this year.
Wetted it down well then 1 about an egg cup full to 1 liter of warm water STIR WELL read the instructions & WASH OF WELL, started to clean the flag stones around it as well.

You could probably neutralise it with a bit of cheap vinegar in water and brush it over the concrete. Might fizz a bit, for fun.

Learned this myself working in the bathroom at a flat I once lived in, using clr cleaner and bleach to clean limescale off a shower door. It’s a horrible sensation, a burning in your throat and feels like you’re being choked round the neck. Felt horribly weak in there, when I got out the air felt amazing, Ill never forget this experience!

I can tell you bleach is great for weeds.

I have a 40 metre wall edge and every year have to spray weedkiller, this year I used bleach and it has killed the lot.

I was well chuffed I had saved about £5 on the cost, then due to a leaking connection saw the massive stain on my jeans.. won £5 and lost £20
