Hi everyone, long time mig welder here. mostly on cars and making railings etc. before now i have always worked for myself so any saftey issues have been down to myself such as "mask, overalls etc" i've been working at a rather large company for the past month, we make rebar cages. The issue im having is that the workshop has around 10 welders constantly welding. we have no welding screens or proper extraction. they provide us with the crappy disposable masks which do not work, especially when i have to wear glasses on the daily. But its the arc flash im more concerned about, i have to lift my mask to crane the work off the bench and to walk around the workshop as the floor is always covered in cages or bags of rebar, i trip without the mask let alone wearing it . should they provide the screens? and how bad is it for your eyes to be subject to this everyday. ive not had arc eye so far at this job but i have had it before hand as a kid but surely even from across the room its bad? im not up on all the health and saftey with the big companies etc.
any advice would be helpful. thank you
