I don't have an answer for you, but you should also indicate if it's tile or slate, and it they can be reused, and also if the enevitable replacements are easy to find.

slate or tiles...front,back or both...whats the access like for scaffolding stage at gutter height. sometimes its much better to dry ridge it rather than re-point over old mortar. Sorry to sound a smart ar$e but everything i have mentioned effects price;)

Front and back tiles built in 60's.
Access to back is down a small alley way between houses.

I hate to hijack a post, but seeing as we are discussing roofs, I am having a flat roof looked at tomorrow with regards to refelting. Mr Roofman, which do you advise, old fashioned felt or the inflatable boat type material, EDPM is it?

    What's wrong with it?
The existing felt roof was done 20 years ago when we moved in & the main part is still ok, only the bits over the arris rail at the edge & where it's tucked under the tiles is bad. The main roof was covered in some sort of silver paint to stop uv damage I think & it as good as the day it was done, but from what I recall the edges had to have green mineral felt on. I'll see what the roofer says tomorrow, it may not be needed to replace all of it.

If it isn't done well it won't last. Lots of people bodging it in.

If I had a freestanding building I'd consider it. Anything complex and felt would be my preference.
Weak points being against existing buildings/up stands and windows.

That makes sense, it is a fairly complex shape.

I have stopped doing rubber for various reasons and now offer the following
    18mm plywood decking
Vapor escape layer (hundreds of holes in felt to disperse moisture across roof area to stop blisters in localized areas)
    full SBS 2mm base layer
    full SBS 4mm intermediate layer
full SBS 4mm mineral surfaced cap sheet..black,brown,white,blue,brindle,green are your main colour choices
roof life in excess of 40 years and will cost approx £75 per sq meter fully inclusive;)

Thanks for that, Roofman, that sounds like that's what the guy wants to use, he won't use rubber for a variety of reasons. He tells me a life of 40 years, at 69 I don't think I need to worry too much
