I need rising hinges for my tongue & groove driveway gates as they need to open up a slope. Does anyone know where I can buy these or how they can be made please.
I think the thing is how wide are the gates and how much of a slope do you have.
Rising butt hinges will only cope with a very small height difference, otherwise I would think you need to have the bottom hinge out of plumb with the top, in line with the drive way?
I saw an interesting (Italian) solution to this. The gates were hung on a threaded rod inside an ally tube. The hinge bars exited the tube through slots that were vertical to get the lift, then horizontal to swing the gates through 90 deg. The motor wound the thread to raise them until they came to an collar on the thread level with the horizontal slot, at which point they swung round. Motor reversed to close. I used to buy a lot of gate stuff off this outfit, but never had cause to try the system, or saw it fitted anywhere.
The angled hinge works fine (as piman) but they look 'orrible when open....
I once made gates were the bottom hinged up to allow for the slope. The control links were a bit fiddly.
