Hi there,
I am looking for a ring rolling hand tool.
Im wanting to bend 6mm round mild steel into rings for mounting heads on african drums.
could anyone point me in the right direction.
or give me some advice?
Many thanks,
Andy
HI Andy, What sort of diameter rings would they be?
6mm is quite easy to bend around a former by hand. You just need to account for a bit of springback when making the former. Say a 250mm former for a 300mm ring.
Hi hitch,
The diameters would vary that's the problem with a former
the smallest diameter would be aprox 6inches going up to about 14inches depending on the drum size.
i really looking for a relatively cheap rolling machine if possible as i need to make about 30 ring in different diameters.
I have managed to find one tool online but it has multi purposes and it is about £350, i didnt really want to spend that much if i can avoid it.
I just want a ring roller http://www.wttool.com/product-exec/product_id/14631/nm/Planetary_Ring_Roller
like this but this is a us site i really wanted to get one in the uk.
Thanks,
Andy
Have a look at these, available from the UK manufacturer. I have the smaller roller which will handle upto 5mm round bar, and it is very easy to use. The larger one will take upto 10mm but is quite expensive from memory.
Hi English steve,
Thanks for the reply.
That's the one i have already found that is £350. it says its 3 tools i 1.
I am hoping that that if i can find somewhere that just does a roller on its own it would be a bit cheaper.
many thanks,
Andy
Thanks for the replies guys, I don't really want to get into trying to make my own. There must be somewhere in the UK that sell them at a reasonable price.
Does anyone have any suggestions were i should be looking? I think Ive tried every combination of wording in Google i can think of .
Many thanks,
Andy
Thanks for suggestion.
I was really thinking if getting something as big as that.
At the moment it looks like my best option is going to be the one that English Steve suggested. Or to order one from the states unless anyone has any other options.
Thanks,
Andy
Do you want to keep making them, or just as a one off - maybe its cheaper / easier to just have them done by someone else if its just one set of rings you need?
With the prices that most of the component suppliers sell rings for it seems hardly worth spending that much on a very flimsy looking tool as featured in my opinion. I have seen something somewhere in a magazine I have in the factory. Ill try n look it up for you.
Any luck?
Chronos did do one (item SMY012 Gear Driven Ring Roller) for £60 incl. postage but I've had it on order since the beginning of January with no sign of delivery - couple of slipped dates and now it does not show on their website, so I'm not holding my breath. If I can find some-one who's got it in stock I'm very tempted to cancel my order as I'm having to do all the chasing and their delivery dates are getting vaguer and vaguer.
Did you have any luck, Andy?
Once you get used to it, that little Metal-Craft roller is really quite good. I used it to make 10 of these over the Christmas period. The rolled semi-circles are 25x3 cold rolled mild steel.
Steve
Edit, Sorry - the link is not working, I'll try again.
