Hi all
I've found this forum out of desperation but having looked at the posts it looks very interesting indeed.
I'm changing my head gasket which failed due to corrosion. I've had my head machined but broke a head bolt off (see photo...it's in solid) getting it out. It's 10ish mm and is sticking out about 5mm leaving about 65mm of thread in the block.
I'd like to weld a nut onto the bolt in the hope that the heat and nut will let me extract it. It resisted my 14in breaker bar!
I have one of the old Kel-Arc 50 amp welders. I have the straight handle and the spot welder gun with it and the spring clamp to complete the circuit. I've got one rod that's about 2 inches long so need a rod + flux (if needed) + advice re whether this is doable and step by step re how to go about it i.e. it's been a very long time e.g. I don't even remember which terminals to connect the rod and clamp to.
As an aside....(I don't want to distract from my problem) but am intrigued re how my kit would compare to George B's £19 Wolf which I've seen some interesting discussion of in various threads. Thanks George and contributors.
