HI folks,
Can any of the great and the good out there answer a couple of queries from a beginner...
Firstly, if you are welding one piece of metal to another does it matter which one the earth clamp is attached too? I mean if one piece is thicker (car chassis rail) and the other is a thinner piece (outrigger) would it make a difference which one you clamp too.
Secondly, I've come a cross a few situations where there really is nowhere to put the clamp at all that is near the welding area. Does it matter if the clamp is a fair way (say, one metre) from the weld to be done? ( - obviously on clean shiny metal). If it is best to get the earthing point as near to the weld as possible, is it acceptable to put in a large self tapping screw nearby and attach earth clamp to that - or would the area of contact be too small.
cheers in advance
fred
