pricing replacement balustrades in council flats, early ‘70’s.
Originally bolted to sides I assume with shield anchors, then I wondered are they ever cast in threaded plates with the pour? Thanks for looking.
Virtually every handrail I've ever fitted onto pre cast concrete stairs in the last 20 odd years has been into threaded sleeves, cast in.
Handrails usually made with extra tolerance in the plates, and large heavy washers. @Welderpaul probably has similar experiences of that...
Whether that's how they did them 50 years ago is another matter.
The lifting points are usually cast in too, screw in a set of eyes, lift into place, unscrew and fill once in situ.
We've done them into cast-in halfen slots but then you need a huge back plate to hide the slots, big enough so if you are worst case right up against the slots at one end, the plate is still big enough to hide the opposite end of the slots.
We've done threaded sleeves - set with a jig and usually fairly accurate - oversize holes in the balustrade fixing plate with Form G washers under the nut heads.
Being able to offer up and bolt straight on saves so much time over marking out, drilling etc.
Unless there's quite a few flights its unlikely they will be cast in sockets. Id guess at just site drilled in this case.
Thanks chaps, there’s 4 staircases at this location of a similar age ,a similar amount at the other end of town, and a few more in 4 other towns that I haven’t seen.
