Hi all. I have an Oerlikon citoline 2500M for 4 years.single phase. Recently when welding the power seems to fluctuate up and down. If i adjust the power to top setting it would weld as it should then the power suddenly drops and then goes up again randomly.. same with all the settings. Could be welding fine then power drops. Have put on complete new eatrh cable and clamp and a new torch.hasnt seem to made any difference.any ideas of what could be wrong

Usually I would just say open up the machine and check all the connections and joints in the high-current secondary welding circuit. That would include the transformer secondary, rectifier input & output, inductor ( choke ), Eurotorch socket, and work return cable - if a Dinse socket is used for this. These will mostly be bolted connections and heavy thick cables or solid wires and busbars. Check if they are loose, burnt, or corroded. Especially if aluminium wire is used, a connection can look good externally, but when unbolted the wire may be fractured or crumbling inside.
Another possibility is that the bank of 8 smoothing capacitors on the DC output may be failing.
The capacitors are shown in post #16. Ensure that they have discharged before working in this area.
However, for this machine, there is also another potential source of trouble: it has "dynamically-self-adjusting power transformer technology". There's a bunch of electronic wizardry that regulates the inductivity of the main transformer, as per this earlier thread:

Hi there Just got a good deal at a trade show on a Oerlikon Citoline 2500 single phase compact. Anybody got any opinions on the Brand etc, looks well made and welds fine, may also get a AC/DC tig machine. PS anybody hear much about INE (Italy) or ESS (German) machines ?? regards Denis

Posted this is the wrong section originally so I have moved it to here..... Hi I have a Oerlikon Mig Citoline 2500M which is a great bit of kit except the welding at the higher settings ( it has 12) it seems unstable and almost 'flares' during the welding process. At lower settings it seems fine...
