Posting expensive items - couriers want £40 to insure

Can anybody recommend a courier firm that will cover a £700 item at a reasonable rate?
Had a look on parcel 2 go and their standard cover is upto £20 but its £34+VAT extra to insure an item for a value of £700.
I could probably drive it to Devizes myself for not much more than the whole cost to send it insured on a 48 hour service.
Parcel force is still well into the £30's for the additional cover.

You could try UPS or one of the other big parcel firms, they tend to provide better options for high value and fragile items.

I used City Link when I sent off some 1970's Celestion Green backs to be refurbed. They charged about £15 for up to £1k in value.

I use interparcel - they give a good discount for UPS services - take a look at the "store2store" special offer - £1.50! for up to 3?kgs

Found that the:
royal mail special delivery by 1pm service,
Offers copmpensation in various ranges, for upto £1000 its £12 to post an item my size, which is 30x30x10cm and 2kg.

Lets hope its still that price in the post office tomorrow
