Hi all - I used to look at this forum years ago, got excited, bought a cheap stanley topmig machine, couldn't make a good weld for toffee, gave up.... just as this site predicted... Anyway, here i am again, three weeks into an evening class and producing welds that i can't believe it's me!
I now want to treat myself to a great machine that will sort me for everything from light car panels to a heavy land rover chassis. At college i use a lincoln electric that is the weight of a small truck, is about £1500.00 to buy and way over the top for me. When i look online there is just a sea of so many makes and models that i am super confused. If you have a great welder that you are really happy with then please tell me what it is so i can research it, then at least i have a starting point that has a real world recommendation. I'm happy to pay around a grand, so surely that gets me something decent..? Second hand scares me as i just don't know enough to know the difference between good and bad. Thanks, Phil.
