ok, need some advice, I have modified Bedford cast iron pistons for my 1921-22 JAP 996cc V twin, total loss oiling, i.e. no return to the tank, the original pistons had three top rings and one at the bottom, the new pistons have two compression rings and an oil ring, question is :-
do I fit the oil ring, I think maybe,
do I fit two more compression rings in the wider oil ring groove, I have enough rings, not sure about this,
or do I as advised by someone who should know just fit the two top rings and leave the oil ring groove empty?
the engine needs to burn and leak some oil so it does not fill up, I think this will be quite likely to happen whatever but...…
the pistons were changed due to wrist pin scoring in the bores due to missing end caps, low comp pistons plus deep scores made for a slow bike,
