I got this van over 12 months ago now. Intending to convert it to a camper.
I paid 250 quid for the van it had mot and tax and it ran fine. I noticed it would need sill repairs for the next test so i started by buying two door sill sections the only sill area sections available other than dealer parts.
It had problems in the sill areas, caused by the poor fitting of a roof rack by some one who just drilled 16 holes in the roof and then discovered they could only get 10 bolts in with nuts fitted, they just left the holes and the van got a good suply of rain water behind the wood lining and directly into the sill areas. And it had been jacked up on a sill edge that had seperated the sill sections and had roted there also.
I fitted the two sections in the worst areas, and once i got into it i found more and more rust. I had sold my welder just before i got the van and the mate who bought it was good enough to lend me it back to do the welding but he needed it back so i was welderless, and with a van that needed work.
I aranged for a local lad to weld the other stuff, we agreed a price and that was as far as it got, he never got started, i looked at it just sitting there. and thought about selling it or breaking it, but i needed a van still. so i decided to get a welder again, and finish it off, but work on another project my 1953 Ford Prefect took time off me and nothing got done.
I bought a sealey welder but i did not like it so i got a Clarke weld 100E mk 2 Last week, for 15 quid That works ok . and then out of the bluew two days later i was given a SIP 130 mig mate dual purpose. next to brand new It has a swan neck problem a butchered tip area. (stuck tip at a guess) but otherwise is working fine.
I am now at a stage with the Prefect where i can spend soime time on this van and start work on it again. I will need some more sill sections and get the welders sorted out but then i will be back on to it.
Started repairs and then left for 9 months.
Some sill sections were fitted, and arch repairs started.
Still rot in the same areas on the other side and the iner sill sections. the rest of the van is solid.
