Is it not that it fires just after you flick it over?

When there is no stop cable attached they spring back to the run position. If its got fuel you should be able to hear it injecting while cranking with the decompressor on.

You'll struggle to turn it over with the lever in the run position.

There should be a model number/type on a label or plate something like AC1, SR1 etc. to identify it.

We used to wind it up like mad then flick the lever to compression and keep winding till it fired and ran. That was on a saw at a wood yard about 55 years ago, happy days. For oil it used to get straight 30 grade and never had any problems running all day at least 3 days a week.

    Modern luxury

On my Petter PAZ1 you have to crank it up to speed then flick the lever into the run position, to stop the engine you have to lift a catch and push the fuel rack over.

Tend to find Sleeman Hawken good for spares but a trifle dear.

    Hi all

I have a wee look at it to night. Think will get some new fuel.

Cleaned the bowl . Full of rubbish .Think she will take a good bit off cranking .

    Exhaust must be half blocked

Once it starts, get some load on it (piece of 4"x 2" timber jammed against the flywheel) to clear out the clag, just be prepared for a lot of black smoke :D
