Little fill in job this morning, a couple of panels from a 1930s forecourt petrol pump, its being restored and has a bit of corrosion to the bottoms that need dealing with,
At some time during the last 80 years or so its had a plate riveted on, these were solid rivets so I guess its been on there a while, the customer has had the panels blasted and zinc primed so quite nice to work on.
There's a bit of a joggle to put in, so a simple tool for the flypress knocked up from some offcuts and used with a flattening tool does that, this is just a trial piece to prove the offset, the job will be made from cold reduced steel.
Bend the ends then cut the old part off level with the edge of the louvre, and butt weld the new part in with the tig,
The other one wasn't too bad, so I decided to just let a piece in the corners rather than fully weld across the width.
There were some holes to deal with but rather than cut it out this just got the "bzzz bzzz" treatment from the mig with a copper backing bar, and linished off,
A few dents knocked out and a bit of straightening up while I'm at it, and finished
They will be having a pro coach finished brushed paint job so the pitting will be filled by the painter, its never going outside again so will likely be around for another 80 years or so.
