Definitely one for the gun nuts on here and there seems to be a fair few.

Maybe (and only maybe) but the digital ones have a good half-dozen advantages I could readily list that make them worth the hassle of keeping a strip of spare batteries.

Also I don't see anyone complaining about the ones in their TV remote and saying how buttons were so much more convenient :D

My comment was aimed at the cheep ones which are the only ones I have owned which were fine when new but they now have an accuracy of around about 5thou which is fine for most things. Perhaps the SilverLine ones are better than the Lidl ones :scared:, we will only know after some use.

Yes I agree they have many advantages, quick and easy to use, metric conversion, easy to set zero for your target size, easily read in situ etc.
In reality I only use the verniers at times when I should probably be using a mic.

I have stopped buying digital ones - machine coolant kills them - I am now buying Moore and Wright 150mm Metric Dial Caliper 141 Series MW141-15 at about £37 plus VAT

I also bought their 'last one' and it turned up today. I can't complain for £14 and the only reason I even bothered is because of the 200mm but I find the sliding action quite rough and the outside jaws deflect out of line with little pressure. That said they seem to repeat to half a thou. I'm going to put them over some gauge blocks to see how the measure over distance.
