Hi. First a big thanks to Malcolm and all that have made the expert contributions I see here. I've learnt more on this forum over the past few days than I did over the past few months reading books etc. and am now confident to attack the new floor pan, inner/outer sills etc. that I've been unsure about......so keep it up
In cutting back an existing rotten panel to fit in a repair section, I had to cut a little too far to get to good metal. This has resulted in a gap of 5mm to the edge of the repair piece which is too large to weld. Would the correct technique be to take some more of the existing panel out a bit more (say 1.5cm) and fabricate a little long patch piece - then either seam or overlap weld along both long edges? I am thinking this would result in the strongest repair but am hesitant to cut any more good metal off until I get a second opinion!
Many thanks (and Happy Christmas).
Mike
