Having watched David Gardiner DVD, he used what he called a "Flipper" for planishing.
I decided to make my own Flipper.
Found a very rusty old meat cleaver in the shed, thought this would work, as I had seen people make knives from leaf-springs. Also couldn't be bothered to search the local scrap yard for a leaf spring.
Started off by removing the rivets and wooden handles, then cut to size with an angle grinder.
The rust was removed with an 80-grit flap disk.
It was then heated and gradually bent to shape.
Sharp corners and edges were rounded off with a file.
The surface was polished with a DA sander using 80, 120, 240 grit abrasive disks.
The striking surface was further polished using 400 and 800 grit disks.
