Anyone seen an Oxford oil cooled with worse oil? 5mm of sludge on everything.
checked mine after 30 years and its a clean as a whistle .having said that its never been out in the rain . just renewed the mains rubber flex on it after over 30 years going to repaint it and make a set of wheels for itI've owned one for many years but wanted a second so got this off ebay.
Let's say the seller may have been a bit economical with the truth haha. Not too bothered worth it just to see if it will still run.
Ended up buying new oil for my existing oxford and transferring its oil into this one after scrapping off all the sludge.
I'll megger test once oil has had a chance to diffuse the old oil out of the windings.
Shame really as all it takes is 5-10min to check the oil annually but people don't bother.

Before I put the transformer back in the oil I baked it out (have dome the same with motors that have got wet), built a box around it and poked a hot air gun in, waited until it had been at 115*C for about 40 minutes/an hour then called it good - insulation resistance went up past 4 Meg, so adequate for not tripping the RCD...

Flooding? Impressive crud.
Is that 4M ohm on a standard multimeter or HV megger insulation tester.
I'll pull the transformer out in a few days and use heating element to hold oil at 100c for few hours then drop back in.
Hope the moisture will slow diffuse out, if not I'll try the drying box method.
200v isnt really enough
