Ive posted before about problems with my Discovery sport tow electrics, basically the module which allowed trailers with LED or conventional bulbs to be connected to the vehicle went faulty & the vehicle system thought the trailer was still connected. This stopped the rear parking sensors working.
This was rectified by the purchase of a new module, which temporarily cured the fault at a cost of further £25 but after. recent caravan trip & the fault came back.
After another call to the tow electrics supplier, found out the no longer sell my electrics & the only way forward was to purchase another make of electrics (German made) at a cost of £91 (ouch). Complained bitterly & the firm finally agreed to take off the cost of the second module purchased bringing the price to £66. Again the new system was supposed to handle LED & conventional lighting.
New kit arrived, I have fitted it & it works (for now). After fitting I tested the operation with my Sealey tow (MOT approved) plug tester but noted the indicator lights on the tester (LED) flashed fleetingly. Then I connected a tow board (bulbs) & it all worked perfectly.
On reading the fine print on the new kit instructions it states it will work with conventional bulbs & “weighted” LED’s (presumably with a resistor).
To my mind the kit is not compatible with LED lighting as a “weighted” LED is effectively electrically the same a conventional bulb. The original electrics module worked ok with my Sealey tester ok & presumably with unweighted LED lighting.
Opinions please before I get back onto the supplier.
