Just had a call from OFCOM informing me that my Internet Line will self destruct within the next 24 hours. To stop it I should have pressed something or other. Im assuming OFCOM must have moved as it was an INTERNATIONAL call.

Its a scam.....but its a new one on me

Yeah had a few along the same lines.

My internet will be disconnected press 1.
This is your bank, please press 1 to confirm your details etc.
and a few others.

I assume by pressing whatever they ask it connects you to a premium rate or it is simply automated calls that connect when you respond saving the scammers time.

Life seems to be full of internet and phone scammers these days, there must be a lot of non savvy people getting ripped off and a lot of lowlifes making a great living.

Of course you can will change your password, or already made it. But it doesn't matter, my rat software update it every time.

Please don't try to contact me or find me, it is impossible, since I sent you an email from your email account.

Through your e-mail, I uploaded malicious code to your Operation System. I saved all of your contacts with friends, colleagues, relatives and a complete history of visits to the Internet resources. Also I installed a rat software on your device and long tome spying for you.

You are not my only victim, I usually lock devices and ask for a ransom. But I was struck by the sites of intimate content that you very often visit....."

It then goes on to say you need to pay them some money in Bitcoin.

I know it's just a phishing scam but the scary thing is appears to come from yourself and the password they said I'd used is remarkably close to one I have actually used in the past!

I read something the other day and the amount of money they are scamming out of UK citizens is incredible. I cant remember the amount but it was hundreds of millions

I have had the same as @Wozzaaah , I use several different email address names and each one has the same email sent.

It is quite surprising where the scammers pick up the addresses from. I use a different email address for every different entity so I can track it. Many of them are addresses used for buying from independent websites. Other common ones are forum registrations. One or two are just random characters@ so not actually used anywhere. One of the most common is something like vojislp@.

Had a Nigerian prince style email recently, always a good laugh. This one however was different as it asked you to commit fraud by pretending to be a relative .

"Hello Dear,

It's my pleasure to write you. I'm delighted to present to you this wonderful supply and business opportunity which will be of mutual benefit to us. My client was a commodity supplier to Captains of industry in Europe and America, unfortunately we lost him. Even-though gone, his business windows remain open and opportunities are sure for you to come in to replace him.

He had no relatives known to us as he lived a better part of his life in Europe. I am the manager of his account where his business cash flow runs. Since his death, his account running over $4,300,000 remains untouched.

The source of this deposit can be traced to supplies and business chain. However, there are goods worth over $310,000 which he didn't supply till his demise. We have reached out for his relatives to come forth but nobody has laid claim to his business empire. All his customers are worried, also the bank is at the verge of confiscating his account together with the funds in it since no one has come for claim, and this is where you come in. I want to present you to our bank as his relative and partner in business.

Also, i shall introduce you to his market network so that you can take up the supplies and businesses. After due verification, the bank shall release his money to you from his account which is already dormant in the
bank. Once this is achieved, i will then link you to his big clients to assume supply contracts in his stead. I have just this morning had a call from "British telecom" tell me that my broadband will end unless I respond by 2pm. I don't have their service at all.

Sadly a regular call up here in the North East of England for those daft enough to fall for it. Lost count of the number of calls from “Microsoft” about my PC errors my computer is generating.
Had one guy call me up the other day & I gave him my usual reply “Come on admit it you’re a criminal, why don’t you get an honest job” at which point the phone usually goes dead. However, had one particularly intrepid individual the other day who had the nerve to ring me back to try & “convince” me has genuinely was from Microsoft.

Regarding the 'you are entitled to a compensation of ££££££' type scams.

Although they are far from stupid they are not clever enough to realise the amount they often offer is the biggest alert to most people that it is a scam, smaller amounts would probably appear much more genuine.

Enrolling a person who can write in a normal english style would also aid their scam success.

@eSCHEn yep, email is on the list but was a hack over 5 years ago and don't think the password ties in with the sites listed so guessing this is a new one

Had the same last week. Email from myself, and actually listed a password that i've used in the past. Apparently the source of the passwords is from a Linkedin security breach a number of years ago. Hence why you should always change your passwords regularly.

They're working the percentages game, or they'd stop doing this and move on to another way of conning folk. Just need a few to fall for it and they're quids in....literally. Programmes like BBC's Watchdog and the national press regularly warn people, and yet......

My mum has had a lot of calls recently, apparently form our internet service provided informing her our ip address had been compromised and they need to talk her through how to solve the problem.
I have told her to ignore any emails or phone calls from anyone, whoever they say they are. If its genuine and important they will contact her via the post anyway.
Doesn't stop her worrying and texting me to tell me what they said.
I would love some alone time withe the callers hiding behind the phone..

Managed to keep microsoft on phone for 15 minutes the last time they rang he was extremely abusive come the end. friend has done better than that he asked if they would hang on as his dog had escaped while answering the door to posty he hung on for that as well, it's a sort of sport down here.
The won a cruse scam seem to have died along with the heating, windows, health insurance.
There is another with voice messages asking you to ring back, they can be a pain as dentists & surgery use that form of reminder

I get that regularly....Once I said to the guy.....f off youre an effing scammer.......his reply "correct sir"..........a honest scammer !!!
