So I am new to MIG welding all my experience is it TIG. I've been practicing and thought I was getting the hang of it so I went from my practice material 1/4" plate and thick wall square tubing and started to weld up my project. I get about an inch into a 6 inch weld and it is as if I go from short circuit to spray arc. It's hard to explain but I go from a nice sizzling sound (not quite frying still don't have the ear for that just yet) to a blowing gas no frying no popping. At first I thought it was the welder slowing down or having issues feeding but dry running seems to disprove that. I am well braced and set so distance is not changing. I'm running 18.5 volts at 90 ipm in synergic mode. When I go back to practice parts it does fine so I have not ruled out a mental issue. Welds also start looking really poor. Duty cycle is 40% 60% and it is a DC only welder.
Any thoughts?
