OBD2 Code Reader-recommendations?

I’m after a code reader/diagnostic thingy mainly for use on my car (Volvo XC90 - diesel). It seems to require obd2.

I’ve searched through the forum and the Foxwell ones come up and Ebay shows a couple

Any advice or recommendations? I’ve got an engine check light at the moment which I believe is due to (slightly) overfilling the oil, plus a couple of intermittent lights. I’m hoping to drain some oil and clear that one off!

No experience of your linked ones, but have you considered a bluetooth OBDII and mobile app (e.g. torque pro)?

I bought the more expensive one last year and it's more than payed for it's self.Can get live data which comes in handy and actually tells you what the problem is instead of just giving you a code. love having it in the cupboard ready for anytime it's needed and with 5 cars in the house it gets used quite often. Better than paying a garage £40 a time.

I bought a Autel MOT pro & that was pretty decent considering it did other functions like recalibrate steering angle sensors. All depends on what you really think you will get involved with before off loading it to an expert who has spend thousands on diagnostics!

I paid £170 for the Autel secondhand, Might be a little rich possibly.

I thought it was low and we were setting off upnnorth for Xmas so i chucked a litre in. That seemed to set off the warning a couple hours later. Looking online they seem very sensitive to oil level and apparently shouldn’t be filled to “full”??

Do you mean the Fox well one?

Yep it was actually 60£ they charged last time!!

Nope both volvo and Mercedes are very level sensitive as oil level wI'll rise when it expands due to heat

The Foxwell Automaster pro NT414 found it a bit cheaper on Amazon. Used it on loads of different makes of car and had great results. Does more than just engine diagnostics.

If you have a suitable laptop a Volvo VIDA Dice is the way to go. They are available on ebay for around £65. Much more advanced than a hand held scanner but it is specific to Volvo. Depending on the year can do things like DPF regens etc.
