I have recently bought a second hand snap on 130 turbo mig welder. It all seems to function well, and much better since changing the tip and earth clamp.Although when it is simply switched on it makes quite a pronounced humming/vibrating noise. Is this normal or should it need some attention.

Mine wasn't silent, they have a fan that trundles away inside.

Try resting your hand on the panels - one may be loose and vibrating

Use a light machine or sewing machine oil.
Not anything solvent based, wd40 for an example.

The fan blades can sometimes get heavily coated in muck, if one or two of the blades drop this debris it can put the fan balance out and cause a rumbling.

I can always tell when my pc one needs defluffed due to the increase in noise.

Fans are cheap enough off ebay if anything serious has gone wrong with it

Great result, after a dab of oil to both ends of the fan motor the noise has reduced. Now just need to improve my welds.
