Hi all.
20 years ago I did an evening school class on welding. With their machines I could grab some steel make a guess at the settings then fine tune to get what I would call acceptable results.
I have a Draper 1801t mig machine at home with a large argon\co mix bottle attached.
I do similar to my night class and generally get a good "sound" when welding but the penetration is, on the whole, poor and the wire burns up to the tip and clogs.
I'm playing with 1.5 and 2mm steel.
For which I have power setting of 4 and speed 6 for the 1.5
and power 5 and speed 7-8 for 2mm
Am I getting it all wrong?
What should I be adjusting first?
Any advise will be so greatly received.
